Are you an ambitious and technically dedicated DevOps engineer with technical skills in the Windows platform? Do you want to work with cutting-edge technologies within media services and roll-out these across the Nordics? And do you want a job with freedom to take initiative and try out new initiatives? Then you may be NORDUnet’s new DevOps Engineer.

NORDUnet operates in a highly complex technical environment, supporting all academic institutions across the Nordics with safe operations, networks, and media services. Media Services is a relatively newly established business area, and as of today NORDUnet already supports approx. 40 institutions and more than 1.2 million users with new technologies and options for running conferences, meetings, tutorials and others.

In NORDUnet, the Media Services team consists of a Manager, a Media Engineer, and two DevOps engineers incl. this role. As DevOps Engineer, you will help build the common operating infrastructure for Media Services, incl. deployment and support on the Windows platform, while your colleague is a Linux specialist. You will primarily work out of NORDUnet’s HQ situated in Kastrup.

You will work with cutting-edge technologies and touch upon several other technologies, all in an Open Source environment. The technologies are Kaltura, Panopto, Media Site, Zoom, Security Groups, Subnets, Gateways, VPC, h264, h265, Containers, HTML, REST APIs, SQL, Linux SA, HaProxy, Ansible, CDN, and Windows Server.

Your primary responsibilities as DevOpS engineer are a combination of deployment and operations that are all linked to the media services on-premises solutions, and primarily centered on Windows technology:

  • Deploy and support Media Services with performance, stability, security and cost-efficiency.
  • Promote, implement and integrate the NORDUnet Media Services on-premises solutions.
  • Optimize the environment to maximise auto-recovery and geographically distributed redundancy.
  • Report on observations and continuously upgrade performance.
  • Continuously update Media Services and create an efficient infrastructure to hold the expected growth of institutions.
  • Liaise with vendors and direct support to IT stakeholders in the institutions.

You have proven professional development experience from an Open Source environment, with hands-on experience working with different technologies, and you take an interest in them all. You have good knowledge of Windows Servers, and some insight in Linux SA or interest in learning, SQL databases and different technologies. You combine this with deployment and operations experience, possibly supported by direct DevOps experience. In your work, you are used to developing unique solutions based on creativity and sometimes few resources. You are fluent in English and one or more of the Scandinavian languages.

As a person, you present yourself as a team player for whom it is natural to discuss and interact with colleagues, and providing support and service is something that motivates you. In your interaction with stakeholders, you can communicate and make complex technological matters understandable. You can work in a project-oriented organization, meet continuous deadlines and act at both a conceptual and problem-solving level. Your approach is flexible, solution-oriented and with openness for new ideas and other alternatives, where you can go into details when necessary.

When you join NORDUnet you will be among highly skilled colleagues that work at the forefront of new technology. Each day, they strive to design and operate the best network and deliver the best services. Better, smarter and stronger are the guidelines they work by – and excellence is the goal they aim for. Some of the best specialists within their field are working for NORDUnet, and you will be continuously challenged to excel within your area of expertise.
