 A rare opportunity has arisen to join our visionary organisation as Head of Internal Audit – International – to lead a world-class internal audit function. The position reports directly to the Chief Audit Executive of Distell Group based in Stellenbosch, South Africa.  


  • Support the Chief Audit Executive in providing strategic input into and executing the global Distell Internal Audit mandate, vision and strategies.
  • Develop an annual risk based audit plan aligned to the Group Combined Assurance Model, Group and regional financial risks, strategies and objectives to ensure appropriate coverage of the international region audit universe.
  • Ensure professional execution and achievement of audit plan (ensuring operating effectiveness of international internal audit function) in accordance with the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA’s) and Distell Internal Audit Standards.
  • Perform internal audit reviews and specialist consulting/ advisory services.
  • Perform annual and continuous risk and control assessments to ensure the control environment is operating reasonably efficiently and effectively, and to identify assurance gaps.
  • Assist the business management team to develop and implement Internal Control Checklists and other control self-assessment tools.
  • Execute quality audit reporting which supports value based management and establish strong relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and understand the needs of the business and provide technical solutions and recommendations to deliver on business expectations.
  • Employ innovative audit processes and procedures to improve overall efficiency and contribute added value. This includes use of CAATs and the automation of audit work.
  • Prepare internal audit reporting to senior/ executive management and the Group Audit Committee.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvements for internal audit and the Distell Group.
  • Promote effective risk management, operational efficiency through, amongst others, conducting performance auditing and providing consulting services.
  • Evaluate the company’s governance processes including ethics, especially the ‘tone at the top’.
  • Providing a source of information, as appropriate, regarding instances of fraud, corruption, unethical behaviour and irregularities.
  • Provide a written assessment of the effectiveness of the system of internal controls and risk management for the international region.
  • Co-ordinate internal audit’s work with other assurance providers.
  • Propose and manage the internal audit resources and financial budget for the international region.
  • Lead and develop a competent, motivated and empowered team for the international region.

To be considered for this opportunity you will be either a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or qualified accountant (ICAS/CPA/CA) with a minimum of 5 years audit experience of which 3 years working at managerial level. You will be a dynamic self-starter with exceptional communication, influencing and presentation skills and have the confidence to network throughout an organisation. Strong analysis skills, coupled with good commercial judgement are also essential. This position will report directly to the Chief Audit Executive of Distell Group based in Stellenbosch, South Africa.
