Hudson Technology, Change & Digital Transformation are proud to be working with the University of Edinburgh, one of the most globally recognised institutes in the country, as they seek to recruit the Director of their Applications Development and Operations Division within the Information Services Group. With a focus on the University’s Digital Transformation strategy over the next few years, this role is a critical hire for the organisation as they aim to stay at the forefront of technology within higher education.

You will work closely with the CIO on overarching IT strategy and vision as well as taking responsibility for up to 70 staff and the maintenance and operations of a portfolio of over 150 business critical applications. The role will focus around 3 key areas in line with the organisations goals for the coming years.

The primary focus of your role will revolve around Digital Transformation - the role calls for someone who is well versed in successfully implementing a Digital Transformation Strategy. You will be expected to champion and implement a digital approach across the organisation ensuring that appropriate technology is applied and utilised correctly in all areas. Obviously, there will be several key work streams forming under this banner and you will be expected to oversee and supervise these programmes to ensure a fully digital approach is achieved in a manner which is beneficial to all staff.

As part of the overarching Digital Transformation programme you will be tasked with analysing, rationalising and replacing some of the University’s core systems. Over the years, a situation has culminated whereby many of the primary business systems have become outdated, grown in number and not being used in the most cost or performance effective manner. You will work with a generous budget to identify, rationalise and replace specific systems and applications to create a transformed and efficient working environment.

The other critical part of this role focuses around the implementation of a successful Business Intelligence strategy. With the use of relevant market and industry information becoming more prevalent, the University has pin pointed Business Intelligence as one area where they must continue to evolve and improve in order to remain at the fore front in their field and stay ahead of their competition. You will be tasked with gathering appropriate data and making using of the business/data analysts within the organisation. This data and subsequent analysis will directly influence policies and work streams across the University.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate previous experience of implementing a Digital Transformation Strategy within a large organisation. You will have previously been involved in a modern Business Intelligence function whereby analytics and market info are used to shape company work streams. You will need to have direct experience in the analysis and replacement of core business systems. You must have the right persona to deal with the multiple different characters and personalities involved in a large and complex organisation with the ability to sway opinion and manage expectations of multiple stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone who views themselves as forward thinking and pragmatic, with the ability to assume the main leadership position in the digitalisation of a world-renowned organisation.

The role comes with an excellent salary and outstanding package.

Please note you will receive an automated response advising you that we have received your CV.
