Controlling – Auditing - International - Amsterdam

British American Tobacco is one of the world’s leading multinational companies, with brands sold in over 200 markets. They make cigarettes chosen by around one in eight of the world’s one billion adult smokers and we are market leaders in more than 55 countries. Alongside their traditional tobacco business, they are also at the forefront of developing products that offer consumers potentially less risky alternatives to regular cigarettes. 

The quality of their people has always played a major role in their success. To strengthen their business, we are currently looking for a Finance Manager.

The Finance Manager is a member of the Corporate Finance Department and reports to the Sr. Corporate Finance Manager. The main focus of the position is to prepare and provide British American Tobacco with relevant financial information in the finance planning and reporting processes.

  • Ensure the delivery of Local Statutory financials reporting and its respective translation into IFRS;
  • Responsible for local reporting processes, i.e. timely, effective and complied with local tax and legal requirements;
  • Ensure regional/group reporting requirements are met timely and accurately;
  • Maintain a robust control environment, through having the right processes, procedures and policies in place.

  • Prepare local statutory financial reporting, ensuring consistency through a solid reconciliation process;
  • Ensure local corporate tax and VAT requirements are complied with efficiently;
  • Ensure optimal cash management and consequent cash conversion;
  • Define and propose improvements in reporting processes;
  • Effectively manage resources to meet the requirements;
  • Drive the development of the systems in order to provide quality financial information;
  • Motivate, coach and develop team of two Finance Accountants;
  • Finance business partner for budget-holders of Admin Overheads (Back office departments) and Oth income and expense;
  • Keep dissent relationships with external stakeholders including, but not limited to, tax authorities and Audit teams;
  • Identify opportunities to optimize tax and accounting policies and procedures using substance over form approach, but still provide full compliance with Statutory regulations;
  • Should take part in the Tax and Reporting Department initiatives focused on the improvement of the quality of financial information and decreasing effective tax rate.


  • University degree or similar gained from experience;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance positions;
  • Familiar with working in the Netherlands;
  • English (spoken and written): business proficiency level;
  • Acknowledged and proven oral and written communication skills;
  • Understanding of short to medium term issues in the business;
  • In-depth knowledge of Belgium and/or Dutch GAAP and IFRS;
  • In-depth knowledge of financial software packages (SAP&BPC) and MS Office;
  • Excellent analytical skills, rigorous and attention to detail;
  • Acknowledged and proven leadership skills, especially in managing intra-departmental relations;
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
